Countdown to My Love – Sneak Peek!

On January 16th, Indigo returns with a new release and she has a special sneak peek for you to read below.

“Girl, I know you the fuck lying,” Loryn bellowed, hopping from the sofa. She was more pissed than I was, and it had nothing to do with her.

“Nope. I took your advice and went on the date with him. Then we came back here, and…” My words trailed off, implying what we’d done.

“Ohhhh… He really gon’ catch my hands. Let me call Ace’s ass now. He can get it too.”

That made me laugh. Though I forced smiles for my students, that was my first genuine laugh of the day. It felt good, especially since I’d been frowning for the most part of the day.

After DaMonte, I vowed I wouldn’t let myself be played by anyone else. Yet in walked Sutton and he’d done just that. I’d broken my celibacy for him, giving him access that many couldn’t say they been granted, and he’d just turned around and ignored me the whole weekend. Not to mention afterward, to make the situation worse, he came to my classroom demanding a conversation. There was no way he could make a mess of me and try to orchestrate when I’d get over it.

Hell no.

“Sit down, crazy,” I urged, smile fading. “It is what it is. I expected so much more, but I got what I got, and now it’s time to move forward.”

“Yeah, I hear you, Mellie, but how you gon’ move forward when you have to see that fuck tard every day?” Her words caused another smile to lift my lips, but she was right. The way he’d bombarded my moment of solitude that morning was a sign that he wouldn’t leave well enough alone.

I opened my mouth to reply, but the doorbell rang, halting any words I thought about speaking. Huffing and with an attitude, Loryn, still standing, made her way to the door. From where I sat, I couldn’t see the door, but from the way I heard her yelling, I could only imagine who was there.

Sluggishly getting up, I rounded the corner and saw her in Sutton’s face, yelling and pointing her finger. Like a kid in trouble, he just stood there, taking all that she’d been dishing out.

“You got me and my sister fucked up it you thi—”

I finally stepped in, cutting her rant off. “I got it, sissy.”

Her face questioned my seriousness, but I nodded, assuring her that I indeed could handle it myself. Composing herself, she walked off but not before leaving Sutton with one last word. “Try it if you want to. I’ll fuck you up. I don’t give no fucks about you being bigger or taller than me. I’ll wreck shop. Play if you want to.”

With just him and I alone, I stood before him with my arms crossed over my chest. For a few seconds we stood quietly, just gaping at the other.

“You’re here, so you obviously have something to say. Out with it,” I suggested, cutting to the chase, not wanting to prolong his impromptu visit more than necessary.

“Can I come in?” he had the nerve to ask.

It’s the audacity for me. Clutching the cardigan I wore around the house tighter around me, I stood my ground. “Actually, no. I’m fine right where we are. Now, how can I help you, Sutton?”
