Tempest could be mad all she wanted. She had the right to be. But it wasn’t going to end with her being mad at me at end of the night. Shit, the both of us wrecked Thanksgiving dinner. I’d be damned if she thought she was going to mess up my dessert. I had to make things right.

She stayed silent as a gray sedan pulled up in front of the house. It was thirty degrees out and she was wearing a pencil skirt with heels. She had to be freezing. Tempest had never been further north than Tallahassee. “Temp, get in my car and I’ll take you home.”

The car that pulled up didn’t move, I walked around to notice the bright pink Lyft sticker on the windshield. “Zaire, I am not getting in your car.”

She started walking towards the car and I followed right behind her. As soon as she opened the back passenger side door, I slammed it closed. That occurred three more times until the driver had enough.

“Hey lady! This is my car! You either get in or I leave.” The Lyft driver said with a goofy look on his pale white face.

I looked at him as if he had grown an extra head. He had to have lost his mind to think him talking to Temp like that was going to fly. “Nigga fuck your car. Don’t talk to my woman like that. I’ll come around and beat your ass.”

“Zaire, leave so I can take the Lyft back to my car.” Tempest had the nerve to say like she didn’t have any sense.

Growing impatient with her, I bent down and threw her over my right shoulder like the most precious rag doll. Tempest screamed, kicked, and punched me all the way to the car.

When that wasn’t working, she tried a more gentle approach. “Z put me down, please. Baby put me down.”

After opening the passenger side door of my SUV, I sat her in it. She tried to play like she was fighting me as I buckled her in. Before closing the door, I put the child lock on without her noticing. I closed the door and ran over to my side. Push starting my car, I pulled out of my dad’s driveway.

Tempest sat next to me sulking like a child. Her bottom lip poked out just as it always did whenever I didn’t give her her way. “My car is at Prime. Drop me off there please.”

“What’s your car doing at Prime?” I asked out of curiosity. Preston and Tempest had to have ridden together or else she wouldn’t have needed a Lyft.

“I had Preston pick me up from there because I didn’t want him to know where I live.”

As much as I wanted to know the truth about the two of them, I also didn’t want to know a damn thing.

We hope you’re ready!
