Baylee Alexander

It didn’t matter how much I tried to avoid him, something about him kept drawing me closer to him. I had mixed emotions about all of this. There wasn’t a day I didn’t want to see him and when I didn’t my day wasn’t complete. I battled with myself, my heart wanted full control, and my brain was losing.

Running my hand along the leather of a black couch I was admiring, I turned my watch upward to my eyes and glanced around for Dakari. He had a knack for being late. I told him six expecting him to stroll in at six-thirty coolly. And just like clockwork, he was walking through the door. Even in a Jordan hoodie, sweatpants, and Jordan 9’s he still looked nice. Staring as he approached me, I quickly looked away feeling my cheeks burn red.

“Get yourself together, Baylee,” I fussed to myself before he reached me. His expression was unreadable, it was almost like he was just as happy to see me as I was him, but in the same token, he was annoyed to see me. It was confusing, and it was putting me off.

“You’re draining my pockets, girl,” he mumbled looking at the price tag. “Who needs a couch that’s this much?”

“You do. It’s one of a kind,” I hushed. “I’m just doing what you told me to do.”

“You have selective hearing. You know that?”

“Why?” furrowing my brows I looked up at him from under the brim of my hat.

“You hear what you want to hear,” he grumbled. “What else am I spending all my money on in here?” He was a little snappy, so I backed off a little. Walking over to another couch, I muttered lowly. I wasn’t expecting much from him, and honestly, I wanted to slap myself for getting cozy with him last night. What had me riding around on a cloud all day was now causing me annoying agony.

“You good?” I asked after ten minutes of deafening silence between us. “You seem a little bothered.”

“Practice was a bitch,” he mumbled. “I’m good though, just want to relax in my house.”

“Well good news, this is the last step,” trying to lighten his mood, I smiled. It was heavy and blowing me. “So, just pick out a bed and couch, and we’re done. You can go relax.”

“Nah, I gotta meet up with your brother,” he palmed his face, stopping in his tracks and looking at a black low frame bed. Scanning the showroom floor, the women all stared at him as he moved around. Like he was the great black hope. “That one and the couch you love so much.”

“Mr. Summers,” the manager greeted him with a pretentious smile while I waved the sales associate down. He was ready to go, and I was ready to get him out my face with his heavy energy. “You had a great game the other night.”

Turning my attention over my shoulder to look at the short busty blonde flirting with him, my annoyance was growing more, and my jealousy was raising its ugly green head. What was really getting under my skin was the smile he was returning to her, not particularly her.

“Thanks, trying to make this the best season I can,” he cheesed causing me to roll my eyes. Following the sales associate over to the desk, I stopped at the two and grinned. “Babe, I need the card.”

He chuckled lowly and shook his head while my sly smirk crept across my face. Digging into his pocket and pulling out his credit card, he placed it in my hand.

“Thank you.”

I pranced off to the desk to finalize the transaction and delivery. It was clear that I needed to get away from him. This was going nowhere fast.

Walking out of Ashlyn’s, I handed him his card back before hitting the button to unlock my car.

“Babe, can I get the card?” he questioned looking down at me amused while I pulled the car door open. “You’re jealous. It’s so cute on you.”
