Taj

Her nerves were through the roof. Taj couldn’t even enjoy the beauty of Indie’s beachfront home. Instead of roaming around and taking in the scenery of waves crashing against the ocean and the breeze coming through the cracked window, she gnawed at the corner of her mouth. She sat on the steps of the house anxiously biting her lip and waiting for Indie to walk into the house. The thought of anything happening to take him off his path was upsetting her. That was followed by the thought of anyone taking him away from her. That unsettled her more.

"Baby," Joey spoke up walking outside and sitting on the step by her. She flashed a small smile at him and straightened herself up. "You good?"

Taj let a huff of air push through her nostrils and pushed her curls out her face after letting her lip free. "No, but when he gets here, I will be though."

Joey couldn't fight the smile that took over his face. Seeing that after all this time Taj was still captivated by his brother and nothing could really pull her away from him was beautiful.

"You know, growing up in the hood, you don't see shit like this," Joey stated handing her a glass of water. "Don't see shit like this. This love y'all got it’s fucking beautiful although it could've been the love we shared…but I get it."

Joey's statement made Taj giggle and pull herself out of her anxiety and sigh causing her thoughts to reset. "Joey…"

"No need to let me down easy. Like I said, I get it. You're good for him. For a very long time I've watched him live for the people. He has that pioneer spirit; he wants to take everyone out their situation and make life easier for them and for a long time he lost himself because he lost you. He might never say it out of his mouth but that shit fucked with him. I'm happy he got you back, happy you let him back in."

Joey's smile was wide and warm. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her cheek. Letting her go and seeing Indie pull up in an Uber, he let out a sigh of relief. "But if he ever leaves you again…big daddy got you."

Taj burst into a fit of giggles before she stood to her feet and met Indie halfway down the sidewalk. She examined the scowl across his face and placed her hand on his chest. Indie's heart raged against his chest but the touch of Taj's hand calmed it down momentarily. Her eyes were soft and his shoulders fell slightly.

"I'm not talking about it out here," Indie rumbled. "Let's go inside."

She nodded her head and walked inside the house in front of him. Joey closed the door behind them and looked at Indie run his hand over his face with agitation. "Joey, I'm going to need you to go to the site tomorrow and oversee everything. I'll pay you and all that so your parole officer can see you have a legit job and we don’t have any issues out of her."

"Aight bet. Everything cool?"

Indie rolled his lips over another and bounced his eyes from Taj to Joey. "Let me talk to her and we'll get up with you in a few."

“Mal, no please! Please man! I’m gone get you the money! I promise! I just need a little time! I need my fingers man! You gone do me like this bro?” Gip, one of the security guards at Midnight Blue’s said as I had him tied to the chair at the slaughterhouse. Somewhere over the course of us partnering with MB, this nigga decides he wants to get greedy and start stealing some of the profits, like a nigga wouldn’t find out. Being that Nas was in marital bliss and being a new father, I was put in the forefront of running the clubs and the security team. Supposedly, this thieving ass fucker had been doing this shit for years. Blue’s dumbass never even noticed it. It took me and Nas to come in and run shit for us to catch this nigga sticking his hand in the cookie jar.

“Nigga, what makes you think that I want to hear that shit? You’re here for a reason. Once you in this mu’fucka, there’s no leaving. Only wrapped in plastic and a sheet.”

“Please, Mal…” He still continued to beg. What part didn’t this nincompoop understand?

“Nigga, shut thee faawwk up,” I said. Inside, I was laughing my ass off, but on the outside my face was stone. “I’m not a nice guy, so I don’t want to hear ya begging,” I told him. I grabbed his hand roughly and placed it on the table beside him. “Now this is going to hurt a little.”

“No! No! PLEASE!” He yelled. I picked up the sledgehammer and brought it down with force.

Synopsis

If confidence was a women’s size twenty, then its name would have to be Aspen St. Andrews. The thirty-one-year-old freelance journalist is living life on her own terms, except in one area. Love. She feels somewhat stuck in an engagement to a man that she once loved, until things began to change once they decided to cohabitate. They argue about her career as if it’s a hobby and Aspen is sick of it. As their engagement is on the verge of being dissolved, she decides to take a trip to the little town of Nome, Texas to interview farmers about their livestock that are mysteriously dying. What she doesn’t expect, is to meet a man that threatens to change everything she found attractive in a man. Aspen couldn’t have these sorts of desires for a stranger who was tactless and rude. No matter how pitiful her relationship was, she was still engaged to be married.

Seven Storm Henderson is a man that knows what he wants. Until he finds it, or he stumbles upon it, he chooses to live life to the fullest. Being the youngest of seven children, he’s used to getting his way. He owns a full-service center and mechanic shop and his family pretty much owns the entire town. But what he loves is taking care of the animals in their pastures, especially the cattle. Women are willing to throw themselves at his feet, but he only wants one thing from them. Even with him being rude and nasty to most of them, they still continue to chase the Storm. One day, what he feels is his destiny, drops in his lap, but he soon realizes that she isn’t like most chicks he dealt with. She was all woman.

Storm and Aspen have a rocky start, because Storm can’t seem to speak intelligently enough to woo Aspen. He realizes that she may be too good for him, but that doesn’t stop his pursuit. Will Storm make the necessary changes to have Aspen all to himself or will Aspen make the necessary changes in her life to actually give Storm a chance?

I couldn’t wait for Storm to get home. I’d cooked his favorite, ox tails, black-eyed peas with rice, cabbage and candied yams. Although I’d spent a fortune at the grocery store in Sour Lake, it was worth it for Storm. I could’ve gotten this for half the price in Houston. Once I’d cooked his meal, I cleaned up a bit just to give myself something to do. I put on some extremely short shorts and a tank top that my titties would easily spill out of, after soaking in the tub, preparing my body for tonight’s festivities.

When I heard Storm in the driveway, I slipped on my heels and prepared to meet him at the door. He’d had a rough day already, so I was praying that the second half of his day was a little easier. When I heard his keys, I walked closer to the door and struck a pose. I giggled inside, because I felt a little silly doing this. But the way he made me feel, pulled even more confidence out of me and made me feel like the most desired woman in the world. I brought my hand up to my head and grabbed my hair.

Focusing my eyes on the door when it opened, I felt a tinge of nervousness course through me. Storm looked pissed as he closed the door, but the way all that shit left his face when he saw me, was priceless. He tucked his bottom lip in his mouth and scanned my body from head to toe. “Hey, baby. How was the rest of your day?”

“Shit, I don’t even remember, now,” he said as he made his way to me, holding his dick through his pants. “Fuck, Aspen. You sexy as hell.”

I smiled at him, then put my arms around his neck when he’d made it to me. “You sexy as hell, too. I can’t wait to see what category you gon’ unleash on me tonight.”

“Category? Naw. This shit is about to be the deadliest tornado you ever seen.”

He gripped my ass tightly, causing me to flinch, then lowered his mouth to my neck. “Storm, we can’t start yet. I cooked for you, baby.”

“But I got my dinner right here,” he mumbled against my neck.

Synopsis

Hardworking. There’s no better word to describe Afrika Phillips. When the opportunity arises for a position in the finance department at a black-owned tech company, she feels as though she is a shoe-in.

There’s only one problem—Warren.

The two of them meet in the most unconventional way.

Warren Johnson is stubborn and guarded. His only focus is his career. Against his will, his encounter with Afrika forces him to question his beliefs. The biggest one: there’s not a place in his life to love.

As fate would have it, Afrika and Warren take each other through a journey that teaches them that no one is perfect and that growth is constant.

At the end, the question still remains, will the two let love in?

Warren

I intertwined her right hand with mine. The energy that we instantly transferred to one another forced us to look down at our hands. She went to pull away, but I held on to it tighter. “Do you believe in fate?”

She bit on her bottom right side of her lip. With her free hand, she pulled her thick hair away from her face. “Not until I met you.”

That was not what I was expecting to hear but I went with her, “Whatever reason that brought us together, whether it was for you to get the job you deserved, for me to become a better man, or for you to become wife, I want you to be a part of my life.”

Hiding her smile, she said, “You’re only saying that for me to say yes to taking the job offer.”

Afrika couldn’t have been more wrong. I truly wanted her in any way that life permitted me to have her. Ideally, it would be as my partner in life, but I couldn’t say that either. To say that would mean I would have to date her. If I were being honest, I wasn’t ready for that.

I raised Afrika’s hand to my lips and planted a soft kiss to the back of it. “There’s a little truth to that,” I said jokingly.

She pulled her hand from me and pushed my chest. Letting the dessert cool down, we went back to the table to finish eating our food. Dessert was going to be saved for the movie. “Can I ask you a question?”

“Can I marry you? The answer is no. You have to take me to South Africa first not just pay my way there.”

Afrika was making it hard for me not say forget everything and pursue her. Every time she said something in humor, she’d smile sweetly at me. Each smile taking down a brick around the wall that protected my heart. It no longer felt like protection. With Afrika it began to feel as if it was barricaded.

“I’ll keep that in mind.” And there she went blushing again. With Afrika, I was playing with fire. She was dangerous but I had to touch it. She’d consume me and her passion alone would burn me alive. Was I ready for it, no. But I wanted it. I wanted her.
