SYNOPSIS
Hardworking. There’s no better word to describe Afrika Phillips. When the opportunity arises for a position in the finance department at a black-owned tech company, she feels as though she is a shoe-in.
There’s only one problem—Warren.
The two of them meet in the most unconventional way.
Warren Johnson is stubborn and guarded. His only focus is his career. Against his will, his encounter with Afrika forces him to question his beliefs. The biggest one: there’s not a place in his life to love.
As fate would have it, Afrika and Warren take each other through a journey that teaches them that no one is perfect and that growth is constant.
At the end, the question still remains, will the two let love in?
SNEAK PEEK
Afrika
My bare feet planted on my wooden floor. Shock on my face. Amity and fury fighting against one another to win a battle over my emotions.
“What are you doing at my house? How in the world did you even get my address?”
Not bothering to ask my permission, he maneuvered his way into my house and began walking around the living room. He must’ve lost his mind since the last time I saw him.
“It smells really good in here. Are you cooking?” He started walking to the kitchen and that’s when anger took over. Slamming the door shut, I followed behind him.
“Are you deaf? No, that’s giving you too much credit. You’re dumb, aren’t you?”
He turned around so quick that I bumped into his chest. “Afrika, I am sorry. It was wrong of me to do what I did.”
His words alone caused rage to lose the war. Peace had taken over. “Why are you here? I told her to tell you no.”
He picked me up and positioned me on the kitchen counter. I should’ve had more control but then again, he took it all by touching me with his strong hands. “No, you told her to tell me to kiss your ass. If that’s what it takes for you to take my offer, then I’m willing to do it.”
Warren’s smirk melted my heart. I should’ve been angry. But I just couldn’t stay angry with him grinning at me. His cheekbones were higher than the high he was giving me. Though, I wasn’t going to make it easy for him to get in my good graces. “Why are you here Warren?”
“I didn’t realize how beautiful you are. I mean, I did but this. How you are right now, you are breath taking.”
“Warren....” I appreciated his compliments; however, it wasn’t the time for it. My large curly hair was in a messy bun. I was wearing destressed denim shorts and an oversized t-shirt. If anything, I looked regular.
He moved closer and stood in between my legs. I expected my body to tense up. It did the opposite by relaxing instead. “Afrika I am sorry. I was wrong. I’ve never admitted that to anyone before. After reviewing your file, something I should’ve done from the beginning, I saw that you were well qualified. You deserve the job. The interview was more of a formality. The job is yours, just say yes.”
“No.”
He groaned and pinched the brim of his nose, “What do I have to do? Whatever it is, I’ll do it. I need you.”
I knew he meant he needed me for the finance manager position. My mind knew that’s what made sense. That’s what his words meant. His tone is what had me thinking that there may have been a deeper meaning. It made my heart feel something different. “I’m not working for someone with that twisted viewpoint.”
“I was wrong.”
“You were.”
“Let me make it right,” Warren requested.
“You can’t.”
“Let me try.” I remained silent. “Go out with me,” he demanded.

Hope you’re as ready for Afrika and Warren as we are!
